"Professional baseball is ripe with uncontrollables.

Dealing with constant, unrelenting change over the course of the long season takes a mental and physical toll, and I have had to identify the few key things I need to do on a consistent basis to get me ready for game day.

As a starter, routine is important.

But, it also has to be flexible enough to accommodate changing schedules, different game times, cities, facilities, and personnel.

To that end, everything I do in the days leading up to a start is guided by a certain understanding, that I will

maximize the aspects of my training and recovery that I can control, and let everything else go.

 

Sleep, hydration, and nutrition are the things I rely on to make sure I feel good when it counts.
